I bought this game of my own volition, no company funds, because I’m looking for games I can play with my kids who are 4 & 2. I played Sonic as a kid so I thought it would be a good fit. I was wrong. Not only is this game not for kids, it’s not for me. Let me tell you why.
I did some research for this game before I got it so I wouldn’t be coming in blind. The reviews were decent and fair. The trick is finding games that fit my family and I. The game is colorful, visually stunning and impressive. The story is that Dr Robotnik has created a space theme park to attract these aliens so he can capture them to use as an energy source for his evil machinations. Sonic & Tails discover this, try to help the aliens and in turn you can use their specific abilities when you find them which includes turning into a laser or drill. That’s all I discovered. The game has a lot of hard learning curves from the get go. It didn’t make it easier for me or my eldest. It didn’t take long for my 4 year old to give up as it was way too complicated way too soon. I beat two full levels that consist of 7 acts with a boss at the end of each. I started the third but it didn’t take long for me to rage quit after dying twenty or so times. I decided to give it another go by trying to 100% the early levels. That too just pissed me off after a while because I had no clue as to locate the collectibles like stars. That being said when this game hits its stride to excels into overdrive but when it sucks, it brings the fun to a screeching halt. All in all, this game isn’t for me and it’s definitely not for my kids. I don’t regret buying it since it was only $20 and I feel like I got my money’s worth out of it but I don’t care to play it anymore.
