Slay Jay’s WWE SummerSlam Recap

Slay Jay reviews WWE Summer Slam 2023. I am a long time fan of WWE but haven’t been keeping up with it until the Bloodline Story came along and that is what drew me back into WWE. Here is my objective review of each match from Saturday Night’s Summer Slam.

Match 1. Logan Paul def. Ricochet- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) this match was amazing, so much better than the build up! High flying and a classic Logan Paul finish.

Match 2. Cody Rhodes def. Brock Lesnar- (⭐️⭐️⭐️) this match was frustrating at times but it did a good job at showing Cody’s resilience. The counting out part was long and drawn out but the in ring action was great. Cody Rhodes closes off the trilogy with 3 Crossroads. Brock and Cody share a heartwarming moment after the match.

Match 3. SummerSlam Battle Royal- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) was better than expected. Tons of action and they finally give LA Knight (Yeah!) a big win!

Match 4. Shayna Baszler def. Ronda Rousey- (⭐️) worst match, worst build up. Was not a fan of this match at all. If Rousey leaves WWE, she won’t be missed.

Match 5. Gunther def. Drew McIntyre- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) The Ring General Gunther was taken to the limit from Drew. It’s good to have Drew back and they did a great job with the build for this match. Seems like they want Gunther to break the record with the IC Title reign just only 31 days away from being broken. Great match.

Match 6. Seth Rollins def. Finn Bálor- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) What a great match. They did a fantastic job on the build for this match. Finn came out with the word “seven” on his surgically repaired shoulder and Seth wore the same vest from the night that happened. Of course the Judgment Day got involved which was to Finn’s demise as Seth “Freakin” Rollins retains.

Match 7. Bianca Belair def. Asuka & Charlotte Flair- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) I am not the biggest fan of the women’s division but this match was simply awesome. Tons of technical wrestling and the storyline was decent. The fake injury in the middle of the match was misplaced but probably written in for the cash in. I have heard mixed feelings about Bianca either being over or it being quiet in the stands.

Match 8. IYO SKY cashed in and defeated Bianca Belair- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) I am giving this 5 stars because this is making up for Bianca winning the title. Damage Ctrl comes out and takes out Flair and Asuka. They proceed to take out Bianca’s injured knee with the briefcase and cashes in the WMITB briefcase. Sky hits Belair with a moonsault to pin her to become the new Women’s Universal Champion.

Match 9. Roman Reigns def. Jey Uso in Tribal Combat- (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) The Bloodline Storyline is the main reason I got back into Wrestling. In this installment the title of Tribal Chief and the Undisputed Universal Championship was on the line. This match was fun and full of action. You do get the normal interference on Roman’s side. Solo comes out and does some damage to Jay but Roman accidentally spears Solo which creates a dynamic that is pointing to a potential split between Roman and Solo. We get teased with a spear from Jay to Roman and a Uso Splash but a masked person pulls Jay off Roman as the 3 count was coming down. The masked person unmasked himself and revealed it to be Jay’s brother Jimmy. Jimmy delivers a super kick and throws Jay back in the ring and Roman truly sells the moment which is why he is so good. Roman spears Jay through a table and retains his Title and his Championship.

Jimmy betraying Jay makes no sense to me but they maybe trying set up that Jimmy wants to be Tribal Chief but who knows. That really deflated the match in my opinion because it just didn’t make sense. Next PPV is Backlash so it’s definitely setting up that. Thanks for reading!
