Old Man Logan #22 $3.99
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Penciller: Eric Nguyen(@ericnguyenart)
Colorist: Andres Mossa(@AndresJMossa)
For
this issue OG Logan is propelled into his first appearance in comics
with kitty whiskers and cheesy lines in tow. He realizes that even
though his mind was sent back he can't really change anything. Seeing
this gritty art style with all the colors, fashion, and cheesiness was
superb. The paneling is unique too. Once Logan activates the magical
amulet he is thrown into the Dark Phoenix Saga just to see Jean leave
all over again. After seeing that he uses the amulet this time to be
teleported into a time and place in Japan when he was in his brown and
yellow outfit fighting ninjas. Finally he ends up in Madripoor as Patch.
They really put him through the ringer in this issue with the emotional
rollercoaster ride they make him go on. Some timelines and therefore
outfits look and fits this dark, moody, gritty, art style better.
Regardless the colors always pop and are the strongest visuals on the
page. This was a fun, sad, awesome, and amazing issue.
Grade: STRONG BUY!!!

TMNT: Universe #9 $4.99
Writers: Sophie Campbell(@mooncalfe1) & Bobby Curnow(@thedisastrix)
Artist: Pablo Tunica(@pablo_tunica)
Story & Art: Brahm Revel(@elrevel)
The
first story starts off really well. The art looks warm, soothing, and
enjoyable. Then it shows Angel which was very off putting because she
looks grotesque. Her and Alopex are out in the woods. They got for a
little boat ride on a chatting about their purpose in life, solid stuff.
Then they get swallowed up by a giant toad. To give you a good idea
about the art style, it reminds me of Spirited Away, and that's what the
people look like in inside this giant toad where people are having a
party. It kind of turns into a Hotel California situation. Once they
figure it out though a big toad tells them they have to stay forever and
mentions his sister, Kitsune. The second story is part 4 of what is
ninja. It was the perfect end cap to the arc but I felt it also stood
well on its own. It's about the past, current, and future of the ninja
show through, Leo and Splinter's new chunin. It was brilliant. It gets
me so hyped for the future of TMNT and the Foot clan. I didn't care much
for the first story. The art bugged me and I felt it dragged. It was
decent though. If I was to grade them separately I'd give the first one a
STRONG Skim and the second a STRONG BUY!!! Combined that brings it down
to a BUY!!
