April 9, 2014 Comic Week in Review

Pablo Gunner uses the little intelligence he has to muster up some written comic book reviews of the titles that he thinks his fellow nerds would want to know about most and the books that didn’t quite make it onto the Comicast.

ALL NEW DOOP #1 (OF 5) ANMN
(W) Peter Milligan (A) David Lafuente, Laura Allred (CA) Michael Allred
3.99
I have no idea what this is. It makes no sense to me. I like the way it is drawn and I really enjoy the colors but I have no idea what I just read. Doop jumps around timelines aka Doopspace during the X-Men crossover event Battle of The Atom. In the end it results in Doop making his move on Kitty Pryde. It didn't make any sense. I don't even know why this bothers to exist.
Verdict: PASS

ALL NEW GHOST RIDER #2 ANMN
(W) Felipe Smith (A/CA) Tradd Moore
3.99
I'm starting to get that this has somewhat of a Blood In Blood Out feeling to it mixed with a Ghost Rider  of another kind. The art has a manga style to it. It's very fluid, unique, thin inks and strong, powerful, bursts of color. Something about this guy wanting to get him and his disabled younger brother out of the barrio is very admirable and interesting to me. I want nothing more than for him to get his vengeance on these gangsters. The plot thickens as this story continues and I'm official hooked. There's some Jekyll/Hyde pills being distributed by this gang. On top of that it turns out that the car he was racing was actually the gang leaders  as they catch him red handed so now he's in deep $#!+. Maybe I just like this book because it's made up of multiple things I like: Blood In Blood Out, the Marvel U, and Ghost Rider. I'm down for more to say the least.
Verdict: BUY

All-New Ultimates #1
(W) Michel Fiffe (A) Amilcar Pinna
3.99

AVENGERS UNDERCOVER #2 ANMN
(W) Dennis Hopeless (A) Kev Walker (CA) Francesco Mattina
2.99
In this issue we have the survived, PTSD ridden, broken, ostracized contestants of Arcade's Murder World from Avengers Arena in the belly of the beast. They have found and entered the secret hidden base of Arcade and an underground villain city. The idea introduced in this is starting to connect with the actual original projection of this title. The characters actually feel like they belong since they left Murder World. They're around people just like them, damaged, broken, hurt, vengeful, crazy, and psychotic. They sneak into this city and find their lost friend having the time of his life in a club surrounded by people they like and appreciate him. Some of them really struggle with this idea but most totally give into it. In the it goes to show they they haven't lost the real reason they're there, to find and kill Arcade.
Verdict: weak BUY

SECRET AVENGERS #2 ANMN
(W) Ales Kot (A) Michael Walsh (CA) Tradd Moore
3.99

WHAT IF AGE OF ULTRON #2 (OF 5)
(W) Joe Keatinge (A) Ramon Villalobos (CA) Chris Stevens
3.99

Batgirl #30
(W) Marguerite Bennett (A) Robert Gill (CA) Clay Mann
2.99
Verdict: STRONG Skim
